Shag + Oblong Face: Bangs Do the Work

Why It Works

The shag is a strong choice for an oblong face, but only when the volume goes sideways rather than up. An oblong face is longer than it is wide, so the usual shag crown lift would stretch it further; instead, the layers should push fullness out to the sides to add the width a long face lacks. The shag biggest advantage here is its bangs — a fringe or curtain bangs across the forehead shortens the long line from hairline to chin, which is exactly what an oblong face needs. With side-weighted volume and bangs, the choppy layers frame and shorten the face rather than lengthen it. Keeping the crown relatively flat is the rule that flips from the round-face version.
